Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about what happens after you've completed the comparison process and you've made the choice to switch energy suppliers .
If you change your mind, that's okay,
your new energy supplier
has to give you ten days of 'cooling-off' period,
that means you have ten days during which you can cancel the process and go back to your old
energy supplier
.
No. You won't need to do anything like that.
The delivery of actual energy to your house, via the pipes and wires, is done by your energy distributer (not by your energy retailer).
This distributor will continue to supply energy to your premises
after you change to a different energy retailer.
The retailer issues your
energy bills, but they buy the energy from the distributor, then
resell it to you. You can't buy energy directly from a distributor,
you have to go through an energy retailer.
You can be sure that when you switch retailers, your energy supply will not be interrupted
because you will continue to have the same connection to your distributor.
The 'paperwork' is processed very quickly,
usually in less than 24 hours.
However, the final switchover
can't go ahead until after
your old supplier
has issued you your final bill,
and they cannot do that until after your next meter reading.
So, it depends on
when your next meter reading be. It could take as long as three months.
We will sign you up with the
new energy supplier
, and we'll tell
the current provider that you are switching away from them.

will not happen immediately, because the current supplier
will have to read your meter again, one final time.

Here is a list of easily implemented tips for reducing your usage of energy
- Use the clothes dryer less. Hang clothes to dry outside or alternatively, use an indoor clothing rack.
- Eliminate draughts. Stop cold air or hot air blowing in or leaving through the gaps under doors and around windows through the use of gap seal tape and door snakes.
- A cheap alternative to an electric blanket is a hot water bottle.
- Wear clothing that's appropriate for cold weather, instead of turning on the heater (booties, beanie, jumper, warm socks).
- Turn off your appliances at the power socket when they're not in use.
- Close the doors to rooms that aren't in use, so you just cool or heat a smaller area.
- Stop the sun from over-heating rooms by closing curtains and blinds in rooms that the hot sun shines directly into.
- Minimise lighting by making use of the available natural light and replace older lights with energy efficient LED lighting.
- Minimise air conditioning usage by opening your windows during the night to let the house cool down, and then shutting them in the morning thus keeping the hot air out.
